Bülent Evren
Bülent Evren is a visual artist and a conceptual painter.
*1955: Isparta (Western Turkey). Raised in old Turkish cities: Konya, Bursa, Ankara, and Istanbul. 1967-75: Galatasaray Lycée, Istanbul. 1976-79: EDC École des Dirigeants et des Créateurs d'entreprise, Paris.
1979: Settled in Amsterdam to pursue his artistic career. 1981-83: Ateliers ’63, Haarlem, a period of work and study. Mid-1980s: Public recognition with exhibitions of his art in galleries and museums in the Netherlands and abroad. 1990s and 2000s: Organized projects with other artists, such as the group show Stoned Ground (Oude Kerk, 1998, Amsterdam) with the theme: "How do we deal with our dead?"
2025: His art comprises three phases/groups:
1. Neo Geo paintings/wall pieces (1982-95): abstract forms show new horizons, e.g., scientific discoveries or Dutch skies or the so-called "gecekondular," i.e., houses built overnight on the outskirts of Ankara, made with materials such as bicycle paint on aluminum painted with Aegean sponges;
2. "Iron and Fire" silhouettes (1996-2004): military vehicles as fertility symbols, psychedelic figures, based on Apolinnaire's experiences in the trenches of World War I;
3. The Greek Gods wall figures (2005 to present): Ares, Aphrodite, Apollo, and their alter egos, a dissection of their primal values and characteristics, and cultural symbols examined.
